The Celtics have completed 19 trades since July of 2013. But for every actual trade, it seems like we’ve had dozens of trade rumors. So let’s do a fun experiment. Let’s look back at all the trade rumors that this site has reported on over the last few years, starting with the most recent and working backwards.
November 2016:
Klay Thompson available? - Turned out to be bogus, but made for interesting discussion.
Omri Casspi - Perhaps as a throw-in on a bigger deal?
July 2016:
Jahlil Okafor - A reasonable backup plan if all else fails.
Or perhaps BOTH! - This one involves a dead whale. No really.
June 2016:
Jimmy Butler - didn’t happen on draft night despite “advanced discussions”
Nerlens Noel and Robert Covington
Kris Middleton and Greg Monroe
February 2016:
A mystery trade for the Nets pick that fell through
Some ideas: Jimmy Butler, Jahlil Okafor, Al Horford
Kevin Love (an oft-repeated storyline)
January 2016:
November 2015:
DeMarcus Cousins - an annual tradition this time of year
July 2015:
June 2015:
The Celtics offered 6 picks for the right to draft Justise Winslow—and were turned down twice!!!
Looking to trade up in the draft (always)
May 2015:
Take my James Young, ...please.
DeMarcus Cousins - because of course
Februrary 2015: this is the month they actually landed Isaiah Thomas...
December 2014:
This month was pretty much wall-to-wall Rajon Rondo speculation
In fact, it was a fire sale with every player available, including Jeff Green, Brandon Bass, and others.
Seriously, there are too many Rondo rumors to link to.
July 2014:
Ahh, the original Summer of Love (we’ll always have Fenway Park)
June 2014:
...because Ainge is always looking to trade up in the draft.
February 2014:
Just ...so ...many ...Rondo ...rumors.
January 2014:
December 2013:
June 2013:
Boom.
So there you have it. Every rumor for the last three and a half years. (Note: most of these rumors were repeated frequently, and I didn’t even count all the free agency and draft selection rumors we covered)
Think of the mythical roster you could construct just from the names mentioned above: Westbrook, Griffin, Love, Butler, Thompson, Melo, the list goes on. There’s also some deals we’re glad never happened (hi, Omer Asik!). I fought the good fight on Rajon Rondo and lived through several phases of Kevin Love rumors. I count 36 names above (excluding duplicates), and I’m sure there are several that I missed. Add those to the 19 trades that actually happened and ...yeah, we’ve been busy around here.
It has been a lot of fun and the party continues this winter. Stay tuned for more here on CelticsBlog.
