Apparently the MRI results revealed a more serious ankle sprain than the Celtics had originally hoped. He'll be out at least a couple of weeks.
Jae Crowder injury: Boston Celtics wing out at least two weeks with sprained ankle | masslive.com
"He's going to be out a couple of weeks, minimum," Stevens said Sunday after practice.
I've been saying for a while now that Crowder has been the MVP of this team. He's versatile, aggressive, and team--oriented, and his style of play has defined the way the Celtics play this year. His loss will definitely hurt in the short term.
There is some good news, however. It sounds like Kelly Olynyk is close to returning.
Crowder out two weeks, Olynyk set to return soon
Fortunately for the Celtics, Kelly Olynyk is set to make his return this week after he told reporters he's striving to return on Tuesday against the Pacers. "He went through the whole practice and we did quite a bit of up-and-down scrimmage, live action," Stevens said. "It will be dependent on how he feels and I'm sure he'll get with our trainers tonight and tomorrow and come up with that plan. It's good that there's some optimism there."
He'll be needed over the next few weeks. Also, look for Turner to get an expanded role and perhaps for the rookies to get a little extra run.
This is a tough break, but hopefully Crowder can return in time for the playoffs.
