Let's make this quick. Nobody knows what Kevin Durant is going to do this offseason, not even him. The postseason will likely influence his decision a lot, and the summer is going to be nuts.
With all that said, it is always nice to hear that more and more people are putting the Celtics in the discussion of realistic options that Durant could consider this summer. He's got people that he confides in and whose opinions he values. One of those guys is our old friend Kendrick Perkins.
Told that the Celtics likely will pursue Durant, Perkins replied, "Boston and everybody else, right?" Later he added, "As a friend, I try not to talk to him too much about free agency. I always try to just want to talk to him about things outside of basketball. We talk about personal life and stuff like that. And I know he’s getting this question every day on the hour and stuff like that, so I try not to bother him. "But he did shoot some teams out there that he made me sign a confidentiality form that I couldn’t tell nobody. He’s got a few teams that he will be looking at." Perkins was asked if he'd be surprised if Durant considered Boston. "You’re trying to get me to really answer the question," Perkins said. "I can’t answer that. I want to, but I can’t. I mean, I don’t know. I do know, but I don’t know."
I'm pretty sure he was kidding about the confidentiality agreement, but I don't think he's kidding when he sings Boston's praises.
"They ballin’. They are a scary team to go against in the playoffs," added Perkins. "You can feel they enjoy playing with each other. They play at a high level. They’ve got a lot of young talent. I watched when they beat Golden State and they were very impressive. I’ll tell you what — that Isaiah Thomas is playing at a high level right now. … Avery (Bradley) is playing at a high level. Probably one of the better defensive guards. (Jared Sullinger) is playing at a high level too."
Perkins isn't playing for the team now, but I'll bet he still talks to Avery Bradley. Perk has a good feel for the town of Boston and how they react to the team in good times and in bad. If Durant is looking at Boston as a potential destination, I have to think that anything Perkins said would have been favorable.
Anyway, this means nothing but then again it is a little bit of something. Stay woke this summer.
