Celtics make roster moves, are we “done” now?

By all appearances the Celtics finished filling out their roster today. It was a busy day of (minor) moves.

Jaylen Brown hasn’t officially been signed, but barring any trades that’s a foregone conclusion.

So basically the roster now looks like this:

Guards: Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier, RJ Hunter, James Young, Demetrius Jackson

Wings: Jae Crowder, Gerald Green, Jaylen Brown, Jonas Jerebko, John Holland*

Bigs: Al Horford, Amir Johnson, Kelly Olynyk, Tyler Zeller, Jordan Mickey, Ben Bentil*

(*denotes non-guaranteed contract)

That’s 18 players for a 15-man roster, so something will have to give. The team can bring 20 players to training camp but has to get to 15 by the season. I wouldn’t be too surprised to hear about Abdel Nader getting a training camp invite and non-guaranteed contract as well.

Bentil, Holland, and maybe Nader are good candidates to be cut and stashed in the D-League. James Young could be traded or cut, and that would be all we need to do.

The Celtics had been keeping roster spots and cap flexibility open in case the team made a big trade. These finalized deals sure seem like the team is either preparing to make a big trade, or has decided that they are done for the year.

So, any big trades coming?

Ok then, we’re done for the summer now, ...right?

Oh, ok. Carry on then.
