In case you missed it the other day, Adam Duritz of Counting Crows gave the most random and glorious shout-out to Jaylen Brown in which he seems to endorse our young baller for Senate. This speaks to me on so many levels.
The first time I hung out with Jaylen Brown @FCHWPO he was an 18 or 19yr old freshman. My first thought was he should forget wasting time in the NBA and just run for the Senate. But then I remembered Bill Bradley and thought...(shrug) why not just do it all?

When I was Jaylen’s age, I was a sucker for deliberately poetic music, bordering on fake-deep intellectual vibes. Groups like PM Dawn, Smashing Pumpkins, and yes, Counting Crows. So I thought I’d spend this morning dedicating Crows lyrics to Jaylen Brown.
And it's one more night in Hollywood / If you think you might come to California...I think you should
Jaylen Brown decided to go to college at Cal for the academics and to be around the tech valley culture. (via the Undefeated)
“He is an extremely intelligent kid,” the NBA assistant general manager said. “He took a graduate school class at Cal in his freshman year. He is a person who is inquisitive about everything. Because he is so smart, it might be intimidating to some teams. He wants to know why you are doing something instead of just doing it. I don’t think it’s bad, but it’s a form of questioning authority.
“It’s not malicious. He just wants to know what is going on. Old-school coaches don’t want guys that question stuff.”
But the girl on car in the parking lot; says, "Man you should try to take a shot.”
Jaylen wasn’t supposed to be this good this fast, but he’s making the most of his increased opportunities. He doesn’t back down from any challenge and he’s relentlessly attacking whenever he’s on the court. “Shoot your shot” as the kids say.
I been hangin' around this town on the corner
One of his better shots is in the corner where he hits over 45% of them. He needs to be more consistent from other areas around the arc, but it is comforting to know that he’s comfortable in the corners.
All of the beautiful colors are very very meaningful / Gray is my favorite color/ I felt so symbolic yesterday
Do you really die if your ideas live forever ?

I mean, need I say more?
The time when kindness falls like rain / It washes me away and Anna begins change my mind
Jaylen Brown was booed on draft night (mostly because people were anticipating a big trade for Jimmy Butler) but he’s slowly and surely won over any doubters out there.
Maybe this year will be better than the last
To be sure, he’s improved from last year as you would expect a guy to do in his second year. However, I wasn’t necessarily expecting him to advance as fast as he has. In particular on the defensive end, where he’s been an absolute menace to opponents.
Mr. Jones and me are gonna be big stars
The best part is that he gets to share in his upward trajectory with his teammate and friend Jayson Tatum. The future is bright!
