The Boston Celtics announced Wednesday that star center Al Horford will miss their first matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers after going into the NBA’s concussion protocol.
Al Horford will miss tonight’s game after entering the NBA’s concussion protocol. Horford’s first symptoms linking him to a possible concussion occurred this morning. Initially struck in the head on a foul called in the second quarter of Boston’s Nov. 6 contest at Atlanta.

Horford took a hit from Hawks forward Kent Bazemore while going up for a layup in Boston’s ninth straight victory on Monday in Atlanta. He did not experience any concussion-like symptoms during the game or immediately following, but his first symptoms started to occur Wednesday morning.

There is no word yet on how much time Horford will miss, but that he will be monitored as he progresses through the protocol. This is also not the first time Horford has missed time with a concussion since joining the Celtics last season. The big man missed time almost exactly a year ago when he suffered the same type of injury and missed nine games while he recovered.
