All eyes on Twitter as Isaiah Thomas creates a stir with an emoji tweet

What a fury a single set of eyes can cause.

With all apologies to other social media platforms (and blogs for that matter) the fastest way to get information (and misinformation) is Twitter. So around this time of year, Celtics fans and media alike are on it pretty much constantly, looking for the next trade rumor. All that attention can sometime create amusing consequences.

It started last night with a confusingly brief Isaiah Thomas tweet.

That woke up Celtics fans everywhere and set off a series of response tweets. Here was mine.

Here was another.

And another.

You get the idea.

Apparently the interest was enough for media members to start inquiring with the team management to hear what was going down. This from the Celtics assistant GM Mike Zarren.

I use tweetdeck with various columns dedicated to lists of Celtics and NBA groups. It was all out of control last night.

Speculation was rampant and try as I might, I couldn’t keep Celtics fans from overreacting.

Word started circulating that the Celtics followed Carmelo Anthony on Instagram.

Of course the Celtics follow lots of people on Instagram and I doubt you can read too much into that. Unless they just traded for Taylor Swift as well.

For his part, Isaiah Thomas didn’t clear up his tweet. He just added a note showing his appreciation for the All Star weekend on his Instagram account.

Jae Crowder even got in on the act.

What does it all mean? I don’t know, but I’m going to “stay woke” to find out.

Obviously if anything breaks for real, we’ll keep you informed here on CelticsBlog.com. But just to be sure, if you want up to the second news and reaction (and sarcasm and banter that may or may not be funny) please follow along on twitter @CelticsBlog. You never know what could spark the next rumor.
