Trade ideas for the Celtics No. 1 draft pick

The list is short and distinguished.

I’m all in on the “don’t overthink it and just draft Markelle Fultz” camp. With that said, Danny Ainge has to consider all his options and if he’s listening then there have to be at least some options that he would consider. Putting on my GM hat, I thought it would be a fun thought exercise to consider some trades that I would consider for the #1 pick.

Anthony Davis

I think you’d have to include the 2018 Nets pick and other things to make it happen but I think you have to do that if the Pelicans are insane enough to hit the blow up button so soon after acquiring DeMarcus Cousins. For more in depth thoughts, see this Michael Pina article.

Karl-Anthony Towns

The common theme here is counting on a team GM to come down with temporary insanity. The only thing going for this idea is the fact that Thibs might want some of our veterans to “win now.” Of course Towns is good enough to win now, but don’t ruin my daydream.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Try not to focus on the fact that we drafted Kelly Olynyk instead of the Greek Freak. Ok, too late. Sorry about that. Maybe we should just move on.

Joel Embiid

This one is hard because we don’t know about Embiid’s long term health. So maybe if the temporarily insane GM agrees to throw in another pick?

Kristaps Porzingis

Knicks fans aren’t going to like me for this, but I think I’d want them to throw in their #8 pick as well.

That’s pretty much the list. Frankly I hate any and all ideas about trading down because this team needs fewer, better players rather than more decent ones.

I’m sure there may be outside-the-box ideas I haven’t considered but I’m sure you’ll tell me all about them in the comments section below.
