Open topic: What other free agents should the Celtics pursue?

Blake Griffin? Paul Millsap? Danilo Gallinari? Punt?

By all accounts, Gordon Hayward looks like the Celtics’ number one target in free agency. But if he decides to stay in Utah or head to another team, the Celtics will still have some options.

They have cap space this year but starting next year that space goes away, so this might be the last chance to go shopping for a while. So what are some other options they should pursue?

Blake Griffin is the name that comes up the most often. He’s certainly one of the better players in the league ...when healthy. There’s the rub. Can you get him on a shorter term contract to reduce the financial impact of his injury risk? We’ll see.

Al Horford’s old teammate Paul Millsap might make some sense too. Though he’s probably looking for a long term deal and I’m not sure if he’ll be worth a long term deal by the end of that hypothetical contract. Again, might make more sense on a short term deal but players and agents won’t be excited about signing those.

We’ve talked at length about the possibility of Danilo Gallinari. That could be an option as well. There are a lot of point guards on the market this year, but unless there’s some unexpected blockbuster trades on the horizon, I don’t think that’s worth pursuing.

If the top choices are off the board, there’s a lot to be said for passing on the lower level free agents and focusing on retaining Kelly Olynyk and/or thinking about extending either Avery Bradley or Isaiah Thomas.

So what’s your preference if we don’t get Gordon?
