With the 53rd pick the Boston Celtics drafted Kadeem Allen of Arizona. He is a 6’3’’ senior guard. Allen played two years for the Wildcats after transferring from junior college and averaged 9.8 points per game as a senior.
In keeping with the prototype that the Celtics prefer, Allen is regarded as a defensive stopper. He was one of the top perimeter defenders in the NCAA last season. He possesses a 6’9’’ wingspan and averaged 1.9 steals and 1.0 blocks per 40 minutes. His offensive game is relatively limited, but he showed improvement as a shooter, hitting 42.7 percent of this three-pointers in his senior year.
Allen joins a crowded backcourt that includes Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier and last year’s second round pick Demetrius Jackson.
