Open topic: Would you trade the ‘18 Nets pick for a top-5 pick this year?

A pick in the hand is worth...

We’ve heard a lot about how deep this draft is with star-potential impact prospects. The Celtics said before the lottery that there were 4 or more players that they would be very happy with. Danny Ainge is still exploring options to work out other top prospects.

So what if the Celtics had the opportunity to trade into the top 5 without giving up our current top pick? That would likely require giving up some significant assets. Perhaps it would require the 2018 Nets pick.

Of course, the danger of giving up that pick is losing a chance to have lightning strike twice and land the top overall pick again. There are some very intriguing big men in the draft next year, along with the expected top 2 picks Luka Doncic and Michael Porter.

Then again, the Nets might make some free-agent moves that push them out of the bottom of the league and into the hazy middle ground of the NBA. They certainly don’t have any incentive to tank, and they may overpay a few restricted free agents to making that next step towards respectability.

So would you give up the variability of next year’s 2018 pick in order to get one of the other prospects that you really like in this year’s draft?
