The arrangement was first reported by Dutch media outlet Het Nieuwsblad but had not been confirmed by the team until now.
“I’m looking forward to that experience,” Gjergja told the outlet in June. “At [the] Boston Celtics, I can get new ideas and expand my horizons.”
Gjergja won coach of the year in 2013 and 2017 in the Belgian league, currently coaching BC Oostende. He signed a four-year extension with his club in February. Gjergja served as an assistant coach of the Croatian National team for Eurobasket 2015. At that time, Zizic won a silver medal at the 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Championship.
Zizic’s older brother Andrija played for the national team during his career and is now the sporting director at Ante’s penultimate European team, Cibona Zagreb in Croatia.
