History of FIFA World Cup:

The FIFA World Cup was previously known as Simple World Cup which is basically an international football competition contested by the senior members of the men’s national team of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) – the sport’s global governing body. The inaugural tournament has been started in the year 1930 (except in 1942 and 1946 because of Second World War) and the championship has been awarded from that time every four years. The last Champion of 2014 was Germany which has won its fourth title at the tournament in Brazil.

However, the first international football match was played in Glasgow in the year 1872 between England and Scotland which was really a challenging one and ended with draw 0-0. After FIFA was founded in the year 1904, it tried to arrange an international tournament between nations outside the Olympic Framework in Switzerland in the year 1906 but the official history of FIFA describes the completion as the failure one.

After that in 1908 of Summer Olympics in London, football has been announced as an official completion. At that time Great Britain which was represented by England football team won the gold medals. They repeated the feat in 1912 in Stockholm. In 1914, FIFA agreed to recognise the Olympic tournament as a "World football Championship for Amateurs" and took the responsibility of managing the whole event. This is the way of turning towards the world first international football competition at 1920 Summer Olympics contested by Egypt and other 13 European Teams which was ultimately won by Belgium. In the nest two Olympic football tournaments in 1924 and 1928, Uruguay won the championship. 1924 was the start of FIFA’s professional era in football world.

FIFA World Cup Team Expansion:

16 teams were taken part in each tournament between the years 1934 to 1978 (except 1938 when 15 teams took participate as Austria was absorbed by Germany and in the year 1950 when India, Turkey and Scotland withdrew and leaving behind 13 teams for the tournament). The football team participants are mostly from Europe and South America with small minority from Africa, North America, Asia and Oceania.

The tournament was expanded in the year 1982 from 16 to 24 teams and then into 32 teams in the year 1998 which was allowing more teams from North America, Africa and Asia to take part into this tournament. Since then, FIFA World cup gain more success.
