Tatum has been one of the league’s top rookies all season, and finally received some recognition for his production.
Jayson Tatum becomes the 5th player in Celtics franchise history to earn Rookie of the Month honors:— Celtics Stats (@celtics_stats) January 4, 2018
Marcus Smart (2014-15)
Adrian Griffin (1999-00)
Paul Pierce (1998-99)
Dino Radja (1993-94) https://t.co/4c9zFPSwcb
Tatum averaged 14.6 points, leading all rookies in total scoring, and shot over 52% from the field and 45% from three over the course of 17 games.
The 2017 third overall pick ranks in the top three in three point percentage as a 19-year old, and has started to handle more of a workload on offense, especially in the second unit.
Considering that Danny Ainge traded down to in the draft to pick Tatum, and the pick Boston received in that trade looks like it will land them another top-five selection, The Celtics have to be thrilled with the choice they made last June. And who knows, maybe December can start the trend towards Tatum earning the Rookie of the Year award when it’s all said and done.
