Celtics to debut City Edition jerseys tonight against the Knicks

Celtics looking to switch up their on-court style tonight against New York.

In the 18th game of the season tonight against the New York Knicks, the Boston Celtics will don their white/green/gold City Edition jerseys for the first time this season.

The Celtics have worn all 3 of their Icon, Association and Statement jerseys so far this season, making it through 17 games with a 9-8 record. In what couldn’t possibly be a coincidence, the franchise seeking its league-leading 18th championship will tip off the 18th game of the 2018-19 NBA season wearing new duds that were inspired by the classic warm-up threads of champion Celtics teams of years past.

The Nike City Edition jerseys change every year, so this will be the first time ever that the franchise will wear this uniform set. Last year, the Celtics debuted grey/green City Edition jerseys that took inspiration from the grey sleeved jerseys from the year prior. The general consensus on that combination is . . . mixed, especially since they debuted on Paul Pierce’s jersey retirement night which was spoiled by a blowout loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

No matter what they wear tonight, Celtics fans will surely hope that the Celtics turn over a new leaf with their new uniforms. At 9-8, the Boston Celtics sit at 6th place in the Eastern Conference standings over a month into the season. With high expectations coming into this year, fans expected a stronger and faster start for a team that is coming off of back-to-back Eastern Conference Finals berths.

There’s nothing better to cure your ailing team than a matchup against the New York Knicks, so the hope is that a win tonight could spark a run in a particularly soft stretch of the season for the Celtics. They tip off against the Knicks tonight at 7:30 PM EST.
