Peyton Manning is known for being a guy that spent endless hours of research in preparation to be in the best position to win each week. Kinda sounds like our coach Brad Stevens. So it is no surprise that the two became friends (dating back to their days in Indiana).
Manning joined the team to watch some film and he seemed to have left a good impression on the guys. via NBC Boston
“It’s great, man,” Kyrie Irving said of Manning’s visit. “He’s a championship winner, unbelievable preparer of the game. He was doing it for so long, thinking about the injuries he had to endure. It was great to see him just come and talk to your team, being in Denver and just having an echelon of greatness coming and talking, there’s nothing like it.”
Stevens obviously shared the enthusiasm. via The Athletic
“It’s not about the Xs and Os, it’s about how they run their meetings, who’s communicating, how they’re communicating, how the players are responding, the activities of the players in those meetings,” Stevens once said. “When you’re at a practice and Peyton Manning’s involved, it’s unbelievable. It’s like a clinic. So having that opportunity to be around those types of elite performers and athletes is something.”
I think the Celtics have quite a bit of film room work to do to clean up some of their decisions. But the beauty of a long season is that they have time to review those issues, practice the right choices, and implement them into game activity going forward. Nobody cares who leads the pack in October and November. The goal is to be the best team in the world by the end of the season.
Once again, the Celtics have so much talent that it is going to take some time and preparation to figure out how the pieces all fit together. A little bit of film room work with a guy that went through that process a few times is a pretty neat idea.
