The Boston Celtics enter tonight’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans on a five-game winning streak, but it’s come at a cost. Several Celtics are currently battling injuries. The injury report tonight is as long as it has been all season:
- Aron Baynes - OUT - left ankle sprain
- Gordon Hayward - DOUBTFUL - illness
- Al Horford - DOUBTFUL - left knee soreness
- Kyrie Irving - OUT - right shoulder soreness
- Guerschon Yabusele - OUT - right ankle sprain
In addition, Jabari Bird remains out due to personal reasons.
Baynes was initially injured against the New York Knicks and missed the game on Saturday night against the Chicago Bulls.
Hayward hasn’t missed any action since a rest day at the Dallas Mavericks. That game coincided with Boston’s last loss.
Horford has missed three games this season: two with the soreness in his left knee and one planned rest day. He played one of his best games against the Knicks, then missed Saturday’s game in Chicago.
Irving seemed to hurt his shoulder late in the victory over New York, but played against Chicago with seemingly no ill effects. This is his first missed game due to injury this season.
Yabusele was injured against the Bulls, when he rolled his right ankle in the second half. After the game Brad Stevens termed it as “bad” and said Yabusele would be “out for a while”.
Due to the injuries, the Celtics recalled P.J. Dozier from the NBAGL’s Maine Red Claws. He’ll be active for tonight’s game.
Boston’s depth chart for tonight is likely to look something like:
Terry Rozier - Brad Wanamaker
Marcus Smart - P.J. Dozier
Jayson Tatum - Jaylen Brown
Marcus Morris - Semi Ojeleye
Daniel Theis - Robert Williams
