Celtics & 76ers to debut Earned Edition jerseys on Christmas Day

Important NBA on-court fashion update.

On top of playing on one of the biggest days of the NBA season, the Boston Celtics and their opponents, the Philadelphia 76ers, will have the opportunity to showcase new uniforms, bringing their total to 5 on the season.

The Earned Edition jerseys were awarded to the 16 teams who made it into the postseason last year. For Philadelphia, the Earned Edition plays off of their City Edition jerseys with a white/red/blue color scheme as opposed to gray/white/red/blue. Plenty of people have criticized the City Edition’s bland colorway (gray jerseys rarely work out. Just ask literally any other Celtics fan), so their Earned Edition is a step in the right direction.

For Boston, the Earned Edition jerseys have neat ties to their current City Edition jerseys as well as the old St. Patrick’s Day uniforms of the good old days. This colorway features white trimming along the arms and necks as well as the logos on the front while featuring gold lettering on the front and back of the jersey. Admittedly, it looks much better on an actual player as opposed to when being presented on a white background.

The 19-13 take on the 22-12 Philadelphia 76ers in an Opening Day rematch. Since then, the 76ers added All-Star Jimmy Butler, so this will really be a fresh matchup and a good test for the Celtics who have had an “eh” start to their season so far. The Celtics will only be missing Aron Baynes (left fourth metacarpal fracture) today; everyone else is healthy.

Catch the game shortly on ABC at 5:30PM EST.
