Life after Shane Larkin....

Shane Larkin may have been one of the most under-appreciated Celtics players last year.

There are only two things you want from your forth string point guard.

  • Play for cheep.
  • Be serviceable when needed.
Larkin was both last year. He started two games. Averaged 21 minutes, 10.5 points, 5.5 assists and 1 steal a gamem in the two games he started. By no means spectacular-- but again he was the Celtics 5th guard. He was a hell of a lot better than guys like Demetrius Jackson or Kadeem Allen.

The Celtics have three point guards in Smart, Irving and Rozier-- but I am not sure how much trust Stevens has in Brad Wanamaker. Here are some options for the 2019 Larkin.

  • Brad Wanamaker
He is here instead of Larkin. Larking did not do a lot his first two months of the season-- but Wanamaker has done nothing.

  • Shane Larkin
Larkin is only on a one year contract in Turkey- if times are desperate, he could come back and contribute to the Celtics. I think-- not sure what his contract situation is, but I am pretty sure the Celtics retain his rights.

  • Jimmer Fredette
(Now we know there are not drug test for posting blogs)
This is not outside the box. This is outside the box, outside the truck the box was delivered in-- outside the postal zone the package was delivered in. While he dominates the Chinese league he has been underwhelming in the NBA. He can shoot.

  • Walt Lemon Jr.
Walt Lemon Jr. had a great pre-season and is doing great things in the GNBA. But so did Nader and Jordan Mickey.

  • TRADE for Spencer Dinwiddie
On the plus side- he is cheep. He will be an UFA next year. The Nets may trade him just for a first round pick. The Celtics would have to figure out some way to get him minutes in an already saturated back court.

  • TRADE for Frank Ntilikina
Ojeleye, Yabusele would need to go to match salary. Not sure you would want to give up a known and a high ceiling unknown for an unknown-- but Ntilikina has shown some ability and could be Rozier 2.0 next year. But that is next year.

  • Trade for Shelvin Mack
He is a cheep vet. ( $1,512,601). He played for Stevens while he was at Bradley. He is an important cog in Memphis's success this year-- so they might not want to let him go. But Ojeleye and a draft pick could pry him out of Memphis.

  • Sign UFA Mario Chalmers
At 32, a good deal of Chalmers game is gone but he could likely give the Celtics 8 to 10 good minutes a night if Irving, Smart or Rozier get injured or traded.

  • Sign UFA Jason Terry
At 41, it is amazing he has been in the league as long as he has-- but the last thing to go is a jump shot-- so maybe.

  • Sign UFA Ty Lawson
Four years ago-- he averaged over 15 points and near 10 assists a game. But he has defined underwhelming for 4 teams now.
