As the Celtics raised Paul Pierce’s number on Sunday, Scott Souza and Mike Petraglia watched live from the TD Garden stands. Danny Ainge said it might have been the hardest Celtics ticket ever to get your hands on, so this week’s mission was for these two bring us inside the ceremony and the career of Pierce on episode 27 of the CelticsBlog pod.

The CelticsBlog pod, with Bobby Manning, dives into the biggest stories the site is covering with its authors each week. We also regularly pull in regional and national writers for more Celtics perspective and figures around the team. Subscribe here for iTunes and here for Stitcher.

Trags brings us inside the building in the second half of the show, with the reaction to Doc Rivers, Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett and others from the 2008 title team attending.

The hour-long ceremony caught scorn from some who view Pierce as overrated league-wide, but Souza’s tracking of Pierce’s significant moments 1998-2008 make it clear he’s a post-game ceremony-worthy figure at least in C’s history.

Kevin Garnett stands as the next question, with one spot left next to 34 on the retired number banner. Souza addressed when Garnett, likely a half-time ceremony, will get his day, with his Timberwolves relationship complicating the effort.

Elsewhere, Ray Allen did not attend the ceremony, a topic Trags addressed in the second half of the show.
