Open thread: What is your best offer for Kawhi Leonard?

Go ahead, get creative. What should the Celtics offer the Spurs?

NBA: San Antonio Spurs at Detroit Pistons Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

So I don’t know what to do with this Kawhi Leonard rumor mill other than to lean into it. So let’s talk about it. The Celtics have assets and Ainge will always make the call. But what’s the offer?

HoopsHype put this theoretical offer on the table.

But let’s say Ainge does want to strike. For salaries to match, and if the Celtics don’t want to move any of their three highest-paid players (Hayward, Irving or Al Horford), a Spurs/Celtics deal would have to look something like this:

Celtics get: Leonard

Spurs get: Brown, Marcus Morris, Terry Rozier, Guerschon Yabusele, Abdel Nader, Semi Ojeleye and the Kings’ Top-1 protected 2019 first-round pick

Aside from Brown and maybe Rozier, the rest of that package can be seen as salary filler. Odds are, the trio of Yabusele, Nader and Ojeleye would likely get waived by the time training camp is wrapping up, unless any of them impresses Popovich enough to earn a spot on the Spurs’ roster.

Would you be happy with that trade if it went through?

I suppose a lot depends on Kawhi’s health and his willingness to make Boston a long term destination for him.

So if you aren’t happy with the trade package mentioned above, let’s hear your ideas.

If you want to get really creative, give us the best trade packages that other teams can offer. The Lakers, Sixers, Clippers, and several other teams will at least kick the tires on this if the Spurs are willing to talk.

So have fun and be creative (but in that spirit, be respectful of other people’s ideas, no matter how nutty they seem to you).
