Notably, Boston is currently behind the Philadelphia 76ers among Eastern Conference teams. Westgate explains this as being careful when LeBron James is a free agent.
Murray went on to explain that if James signs with any non-Philadelphia team, the Celtics will vault the Sixers into the top spot in the East.
Boston will return Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward and Daniel Theis from injuries to bolster a team that came within one game of reaching the NBA Finals in 2018. Key rotation players Aron Baynes and Marcus Smart are free agents, but early indications are that Boston will attempt to keep both in green for the 2018-19 season.
