With Jabari Bird in street clothes for a scheduled rest day and Robert Williams still sidelined, the Celtics won a scrappy affair against the Summer incarnation of the Miami Heat. The Celtics were paced throughout by the good play of former Iowa / Fort Wayne Mad Ant product Jared Uthoff (11 pts, 6 rebs), European bound Pierra Henry (15 pts, 5 asts) and the Dancing Bear Guerschon Yabusele, who pirouetted his way to a double-double with 12 pts and 10 rebounds.
The Celtics came out flat to start against the Miami Heat and went behind early following some hot shooting of Rashad Vaughn who tallied 8 points in the first 6 minutes to start the game. A hustle play Guershon Yabusele down 7 sparked a run for the Celtics with 4 minutes to go in the quarter. The bench play of Jarell Eddie, Kadeem Allen and starter Jared Uthoff established a lead to close the quarter 19-16.
The 2nd quarter was scrappy even by Summer League standards and the points were hard to come by for both teams. Pierria Henry who has had a decent summer league was active throughout and provided some very nice passing with his length and displayed a nice handle that opened opportunities for others. Yabusele also showed glimpses of Al Horford-esque passing that will impress Brad Stevens and the coaching staff:
Henry who is on the European scouting radars kept the Celtics paced in the 3rd quarter with a series of nice plays to help establish a double digit lead. Hassan Martin popped up for a strong 2nd half cameo and provided a nasty finish to this sequence:

The 4th quarter though, was all one way traffic as Miami reeled off 14 straights points and eventually whittled the Celtics lead down to 1 point with 2.3 seconds to go. The Heat saw a bevy of solid performances with 10 players scoring throughout the game. The Summer Celtics had trouble putting away a feisty Heat squad, and eventually the game came down to an unsuccessful three point heave from Derrick Walton Jr. at the buzzer.
The Celtics will take on the Portland Trailblazers, Sunday at 8pm.
