The Boston Celtics trading Abdel Nader to the Oklahoma City Thunder instead of simply waiving him, will save Boston $450K and take them further under the luxury tax.— Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) July 24, 2018
The Celtics will ultimately waive Rodney Purvis, who is fully non-guaranteed.
Purvis was traded from the Orlando Magic to Oklahoma City this past Friday in exchange for Dakari Johnson. The University of Connecticut product averaged 6 points in 18 games played for Orlando last season.
Boston was planning on waiving Nader, but trading him instead will save the team $450,000, moving them further under the luxury tax.
