Sources: The Celtics have waived guard Rodney Purvis, who was acquired last week in trade sending Abdel Nader to Oklahoma City.— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 30, 2018
Instead of outright waiving Nader before his contract guarantee date, the Celtics maneuvered this trade which will help them inch closer to dipping below the luxury tax line. Eventually, Boston will be a tax-paying team, but they’ll certainly look to get creative to delay the inevitable one more season. Boston has until the trade deadline to get under the tax line.
Purvis, the 6’4” guard, averaged 6.0 points, 1.1 assists and 1.7 rebounds in 16 games last season with the Orlando Magic. Nader, for Boston, averaged 3.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists last season.
