Jaylen Brown joins Bloomberg Technology to talk investing, education, and more

Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown spoke at Bloomberg Live’s second annual Players Technology Summit on Tuesday in San Fransisco amongst a long list of notable speakers. Sitting alongside Golden State Warriors swingman Andre Iguodala, the two players led the “From Athlete to Entrepreneur” section of the summit.

Following his 30 minute presentation, Brown joined Emily Chang on Bloomberg Technology, discussing everything from the venture capital world, to technology and education. The TV spot was another prime example of the 21-year-old’s impressive maturity.

Brown said that right now he’s just trying to “build (his) rolodex”, as his interests hit many different areas. He discussed his lecture at Harvard University during this past season, while focusing on how technology can help to be a bridge between education and basketball. Brown said that his age has a lot to do with why he’s been so active off the court. “Leverage is now,” said the 6-7 wing, meaning that it’s important to take advantage of his influence now while he’s still in his playing career.

The Cal product expressed his curiosity of gambling within sports, especially now that it’s been legalized. Brown also spoke about cryptocurrency, saying that he wants to understand more about the complex topic. He’s not investing yet, but Brown says he’s getting ready.

In terms of basketball, the 21-year-old mentioned the current state of the Eastern Conference now that LeBron James has left the conference. “It’s our job to come in and be like nah, the Celtics are going to be the team to hold it down for the next 5 to 7 to 10 years or however long.”
