Celtics make PJ Dozier signing official

Boston finalizes transaction to sign PJ Dozier to a two-way contract

NBA: Memphis Grizzlies at Oklahoma City Thunder Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

After reports surfaced that the Boston Celtics were going to sign PJ Dozier to a two-way contract at the beginning of the month, the organization finally made it official:

Dozier, not to be confused with Terry Rozier, last played for the Oklahoma City Blue, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s G-League affiliate. In the minor league, Dozier, who also has an uncle who played in the NBA named Terry Dozier, averaged 13 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists, shooting 46% from the field, 34% from 3 and 65% from the free-throw line.

PJ Dozier also played in the Las Vegas Summer League for the Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging 11 points and 1.4 steals while shooting 52% from the field.

As previously mentioned on CelticsBlog, Dozier is known for being the first to take Kevin Durant’s prized #35 jersey during his time with the OKC Thunder. He did this for good reason, though, as he is the late Reggie Lewis’ cousin, a name that Celtics fans are surely familiar with. With Lewis’ jersey hanging in the rafters above the TD Garden, it’ll be interesting to see what jersey Dozier chooses during his time with the Celtics.

Boston now has to finish up sending their training camp invitations, and then the roster should be all set for Media Day next month in September. The Celtics open the 2018 Preseason slate against the Charlotte Hornets on September 28th, and they kick off the season against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday, October 6th.
