Haynes: Boston not a preferred destination for Anthony Davis, uncertainty surrounding Kyrie Irving’s future with Celtics

The NBA was hit with a Woj bomb this morning, but this Yahoo! Sports report hits a little harder for Celtics fans.

Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Haynes is reporting that the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks are both preparing offers for Anthony Davis after the Pelicans’ big man stated he has no intention of re-signing in New Orleans and requested a trade. Buried in that story is this note about the Celtics’ prospects of not just acquiring Davis this summer and retaining Kyrie Irving:

Regarding team preferences, Boston is not a top target for Davis, sources said. There’s a growing belief of uncertainty that Kyrie Irving will not re-sign with Boston, sources said, even though he vowed to do so at the beginning of the season.

The conventional thinking before today was that Irving would act as a recruiter for Davis. Earlier today on Chris Mannix’s The Crossover podcast, NBCBoston’s Brian Scalabrine spoke about the close friendship between Irving and Davis and how their relationship could shape AD’s future.
