The Boston Celtics have waived forwards Kaiser Gates and Yante Maten, and guard Max Strus.
Strus was recently a part of roster maneuvering when it became clear that Boston could not risk losing Tacko Fall. The Celtics converted Strus from his Two-Way contract to a partially guaranteed standard contract. Fall was then converted from his Exhibit 10 contract to a Two-Way contract.
Strus’ guarantee on his new contract was $415,000. That amount was roughly the equivalent of what Strus could have earned while on his Two-Way contract, had he spent the maximum 45 days in the NBA with the Celtics.
Because Strus’ guarantee was greater than $50,000 he will be ineligible to play for the Boston’s NBAGL affiliate - the Maine Red Claws. Gates and Maten are expected to sign deals with the NBAGL and will be assigned to Maine as Affiliate Players.
With the waiver of Strus, it would appear that Javonte Green has won the 15th and final roster spot for the Celtics. Green’s athleticism and defense have won him many fans in Boston and he appears poised to stick on the final roster. Green carries a $100,000 guarantee on his contract, meaning the Celtics can waive him at any point up to 19 days into the season and will owe him just $100,000.
Barring any further moves, the 2019-20 Boston Celtics opening night roster appears to be:
Jaylen Brown
Carsen Edwards
Tacko Fall (Two-Way)
Javonte Green
Gordon Hayward
Enes Kanter
Romeo Langford
Semi Ojeleye
Vincent Poirier
Marcus Smart
Jayson Tatum
Daniel Theis
Kemba Walker
Brad Wanamaker
Tremont Waters (Two-Way)
Grant Williams
Robert Williams
