Al Horford played only three seasons in Boston. He never won a championship and it’s unlikely that his number will get raised to the rafters, but on Thursday night, Celtics fans applauded him on his sort of homecoming.

Depending on what rumors you’ve heard and what reports you believe, there was a possibility that Horford could have re-signed with the Celtics. On a night when Joel Embiid went for 38 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists (despite Daniel Theis and Enes Kanter nearly matching him for a combined 36 points on 17-of-24 shooting), it’s easy to miss Big Al in these match ups against the 76ers. Horford has the strength to battle Embiid on the block and offensive skill set to stretch him out beyond the three-point line.
