Gordon Hayward made a surprising appearance on the injury report Wednesday and now, the Boston Celtics will be even more shorthanded when they play their first game in nearly a week tonight against the Dallas Mavericks.
Hayward has been ruled out versus the Mavericks due to a sore left foot. It is unclear how Hayward suffered the ailment that will make him miss his 14th game this season because of injury.
“He had a sore foot for a while early on and when he was out with the hand, they treated it and felt better about it,” said Celtics coach Brad Stevens on his weekly appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Zolak and Bertrand show. “In the last week, he got some work done and got checked out on Friday and has been dealing with it a little bit earlier this week and was really a shootaround, game-time decision.”
Celtics have ruled out Gordon Hayward vs Dallas with a sore left foot. Hayward seemed to be having some discomfort after practice Tuesday and went through some work with the training staff watching, but was not on the initial injury report.

Hayward has played in just three contests since sitting out 13 games after he fractured his left hand against the San Antonio Spurs on Nov. 9. Hayward also sustained a facial contusion last week versus the Indiana Pacers, but he did not miss any time.
Boston will also be without Vincent Poirier, Marcus Smart and Robert Williams due to the injuries they are working through, creating a somewhat all hands on deck situation when the C’s tip-off against the Mavericks at 9:30 p.m. EST.
