As I mentioned in another post, we’re 20 games into the season so this is as good a time as any to take stock in where we are. Preseason expectations give way to a large enough sample size to make an early season assessment.
Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things, but I’m curious to see who you think is the early season MVP of this team. Is it Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, or someone else like say Marcus Smart?
The case for Kemba is pretty straightforward. He’s the leading scorer, leads the team in assists, he’s a clutch performer, and his positive attitude is infectious.
Meanwhile Jayson Tatum is right behind Kemba in scoring, is 2nd on the team in rebounding, is playing defense at a high level, and draws a lot of defensive attention (allowing other players like Jaylen Brown to thrive).
The case for Jaylen Brown is similar. He’s right behind Tatum in scoring and rebounding and has a higher PER. He’s versatile on defense and has a knack for providing key buckets when the team needs a boost.
Marcus Smart is the heart and soul of the team, so he might just deserve an award all his own.
Gordon Hayward would have been a serious contender for this but has missed too much time due to injury.
So who’s your pick?
