To call the Rising Stars Challenge a “challenge” is a kind of joke. In a way, it’s All Star Saturday Night rolled into one game: part three-point contest, part slam dunk contest, part “let’s just try and not get hurt.” Nonetheless, Jayson Tatum showed out for Team USA in a 161-144 win over The World.
Coached by teammate Kyrie Irving, Tatum dazzled the Charlotte crowd shooting from outside (6-for-14 from behind the arc) and finishing at the rim:
After calling his coach “the best player in the All Star Game this year,” Irving played Tatum the most minutes for Team USA, but that wasn’t enough. Tatum scored 30 points, but the Lakers’ Kyle Kuzma netted 35 and the MVP award in the end.
Earlier in the day, it was another Tatum that stole the show:
Tomorrow night, Tatum will compete in the NBA Skills Challenge where he’s a +600 to win.
