While Kyrie Irving and Jayson Tatum were bundled up in chilly Charlotte, NC for All-Star weekend festivities, Brad Stevens was in a sunnier place. Visiting Fort Myers for the second year in a row, Stevens spent time with the Boston Red Sox during their annual Spring Training visit to Fort Myers, FL.
Boston.com reported on Stevens’ visit and his appreciation for time with the Red Sox and their championship pedigree. After beating L.A. in the World Series, that pedigree is fresher and greener than ever.
“Anytime you get a chance to get away, I think it gives you good perspective,” Stevens told reporters Sunday. “And then, when you get a chance to come here and you’re around that championship vibe — in 80-degree weather — life just feels a little bit better. I don’t know, maybe everything is a little easier with Vitamin D.”
Also of note, Stevens’ mother lives in Southwest Florida, providing extra incentive for his second annual visit to Fort Myers. In the past, Stevens has visited practices for the New England Patriots as well, adding to the championship aura of a city that’s been appropriately dubbed “Title Town” on occasion.
With both the Patriots and the Red Sox coming off of championships this year, the Boston Celtics (and the Boston Bruins) will go for the quadfecta (like tri-fecta but four. I’m not good at this) this June. The Celtics have quietly weathered injuries while playing near a 60-win pace since 2019 began while Gordon Hayward continues to round back into form.
With Stevens taking tips from Alex Cora and Bill Belicheck, maybe the Celtics will be able to pull it off this year. After all, Stevens did mention a special vibe last year in Fort Myers, and the Red Sox went on to win it all.
Stevens reveled in learning from the Red Sox, especially as they bask in the glow of their recent World Series championship. He noticed a special vibe in Fort Myers last spring, and Boston fans will be glad to know he felt the same this time around.
As CelticsBlog’s resident Fort Myers, FL expert, you can basically thank my city for the World Series win. I don’t make the rules, I just live by them.
Boston continues their journey to the NBA Playoffs on Thursday at the Milwaukee Bucks who currently sits in the #1 spot in the East.
