The Boston Celtics announced on Thursday morning that they have recalled guard RJ Hunter from the Maine Red Claws ahead of their matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks. He was signed to a two-way contract on January 9th. The Celtics could be without Gordon Hayward tonight due to a right ankle sprain. Brad Stevens said at this morning’s shootaround that he is doubtful.

In 34 G League games this season, Hunter is averaging 19.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4 assists. He played 22 games with Atlanta’s G League affiliate, the Erie BayHawks, averaging 22 points per game. In 14 games with the Red Claws, Hunter is averaging 14 points per game on 36 percent shooting.
The 25-year-old was drafted by the Celtics in 2015 with the 28th overall pick, but he was waived before the start of the 2016-17 season. His last NBA appearance was with the Houston Rockets during the 2017-18 season, when he played five games, averaging 3.8 points in nine minutes per game.
