Injury update: Marcus Morris joins Kyrie Irving and Aron Baynes as out tonight

New, comments

Boston will be down two starters at Cleveland tonight

The Boston Celtics announced that Marcus Morris will miss tonight’s game at the Cleveland Cavaliers due to right knee soreness. Boston had previously ruled out Kyrie Irving (left hip strain) and Aron Baynes (left foot contusion).

Brad Stevens also confirmed that Baynes will be out through the All-Star break due to the bruise in his left foot.

Without Irving and Morris, the Celtics will be down two starters against the lowly Cavaliers. If things go to form, Terry Rozier will start in place of Irving. Stevens could go to either Jaylen Brown or Gordon Hayward to sub in for Morris. Daniel Theis will likely see increased minutes with Baynes out, as he did on Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This will be Morris’ fifth missed game of the season. Last year, Morris missed considerable time due to knee soreness, but this time around it is not considered to be serious.

With Cleveland struggling at just 11-42, this seems more of an opportunity to let a banged up Irving and Morris get a night off, while Baynes recovers from the (slightly) more concerning injury.

The Celtics also announced that they have recalled PJ Dozier and Robert Williams from the Maine Red Claws of the NBA G-League for additional depth for tonight’s game.
