Celtics Blog’s readers are some of the most passionate fans on the planet. We’ve got an opportunity for you to take that fandom to the next level and join our team as a news desk writer.
From Celtics Blog’s manager, Jeff Clark:
The news desk is the lifeblood of the blog. Whenever news breaks, whether it’s a trade, an injury update, or even just covering press conferences, the news desk writer is expected to post it as soon as possible. Our readers are some of the most active commenters at SB Nation, and we like to give them an outlet to express themselves.
The keys to the position are availability and speed. (Bonus points for adding in your own voice.) Most news will come over the wire in the morning or early afternoon, and we need our news desk writers to get something up as soon as possible. You are welcome to write longer feature-type articles as well, but the news would be your focus for this position.
This is a part-time, remote contractor opportunity. It is compensated with a monthly stipend.
What qualifications should you have?
Our best candidates will:
- Have a passion for the Celtics and will already be familiar with the culture and community at Celtics Blog.
- Understand how to use popular social media networks, like Twitter and Facebook, and be willing to adapt to new best practices.
- Be able to produce and edit clean copy.
- Be comfortable working in a remote environment.
- Previous writing experience about the Celtics, the NBA, or basketball in general is preferred.
How do you apply?
To apply, submit a cover letter explaining why you’re the best person for the role, a resume detailing any previous writing experience, and a basketball-related writing sample via our Vox Media Careers page. You will not be considered for this opportunity if you do not submit all three items.
Vox Media, SB Nation, and Celtics Blog are committed to bringing you coverage of the Celtics from a diverse array of voices and perspectives. If your experience and qualifications do not perfectly align with everything we’re looking for, but you believe you have the potential to thrive in this role, we encourage you to apply.
