Ja Morant consequences....

After yesterday's performance, Morant has cemented himself as the #2 pick in the draft. Triple double.

If you look at the lottery, there are of course a few teams that are in desperate need of a point guard (Phoenix, New Orleans and Orlando and potentially Charlotte). Not all of the teams are desperate at that position. While Washington, Minnesota and Memphis are set a point-- Wall and Conley-- both are on the wrong side of 30 and are far enough away from title contention that Morant would be a solid draft.

Then you have several teams who have young point guards who they would likely have to move.

NEW YORK KNICKS.......................................Dennis Smith jr.
Poor Dennis Smith, he could become the Steve DeBerg of the N.B.A. He is a very solid player who could easily have a Mike Conley career of just being on the cusp of being an all-star without ever being an all-star.

NEW YORK KNICKS........................................Frank Ntilikina
How bad are the Knicks-- they traded their best player for the player they past on to draft Ntilikina. While Ntilikina has talent, he just has not seemed to put everything together. He would be an interesting addition to the Celtics.

CLEVELAND......................................................Collin Sexton
Cleveland is the only team that may serious consider trading Ja Morant. Considering the potential that Sexton has shown and the fact that Point Guard is one of the hardest position to adjust to in the N.B.A.-- there makes no sense for the Cavs to keep both Sexton and Morant. He would be an interesting addition in Boston.

At under 5 million for the next 5 three years-- he would be an exceptional player to consider adding. Although, I really don't think there is a deal to be done. Tatum and Davis are not going to be included in any deal other than Davis-- and maybe K.A.T. After that, the Celtics do not have a lot of young players who Cleveland is going to get excited over. Ojeleye and Yabusele both deserve more playing time, but neither is going to offer much back. Now-- maybe #14, 18 and #22 is enough to get Sexton. More than likely the Memphis pick will have to be put in play.

CHICAGO...........................................................Kris Dunn
He makes the most sense as far as a legit trade target. If the Bulls were willing to take #18 for Dunn-- that seems like a very reasonable trade. He had a great stat line against the Wizards a few days ago. I am not sure that the Bulls are going to be eager to off-load him.

ATLANTA.............................................................Trae Young
Offensively-- Trae Young and Ja Morant would be crazy potent. But can no imagine having the two on the court for more then a few minutes a game. Atlanta may be one of the few teams that would draft R.J. Barrett with the second pick. They may be tempted to trade down-- but again, can not see them willing to fall past 5 for the second pick. Additionally, they have young talent on their roster and if the Mavs pick converts, they will already be trying to work two rookies into their rotation. That is is enough.

L.A. LAKERS.........................................................Lonzo Ball
If the Lakers luck out and get the second pick-- they will want to package that pick for Anthony Davis. The Lakers have a lot of young guys-- but they are young guys who could not make the playoffs with LaBron James. I am not sure that the Celtics could, should or would be able to beat an offer of Ja Morant, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and 2021, 2023 draft picks.

SACRAMENTO.........(Boston / Philly)
Best Case Scenario-- Sacramento gets the 2nd pick in the draft. Boston can then offer Tatum and Morant with a few fillers and later picks-- with little doubt ANY TEAM could match that offer.
