It is amazing how much the playoffs alter the narrative. If the Celtics had simply tried hard and came up short in last year’s playoffs, nobody would have blamed them. It would have been as expected. This year would have been pretty interesting and exciting with Irving and Hayward coming back, but I’m not sure we would have seen across the board preseason predictions of this team reaching the Finals.
During that preseason, Kyrie Irving uttered the famous “If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing here next summer” phrase. Months later his tune was changed to “Ask me July 1st.”
So my question for discussion today is this: Do you think playoff success (or lack therof) will have an impact on Kyrie’s decision to either stay in Boston or move on to another team? Or do you think that he’s all but made up his mind at this point? Or perhaps he hasn’t made up his mind, the playoffs won’t have much impact on his decision, and he’s just a different kind of dude who will do whatever he wants in that moment.
What do you think?
