Way back, last Fall of 2018, at a pre-season event, these were Kyrie Irving's words to Boston fans.
"If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing here"
This suggests that what it will all come down to is that, if Kyrie feels that Boston fans still want him, then he will re-sign with the Boston Celtics.
My question is: Do Boston fans still want him?
And perhaps more importantly, is Kyrie's impression, based on all the news, blogs, tweets, etc., that he is seeing now and over the next few weeks, going to be that Boston fans still want him?
Because if he holds true to what he said, then that is what will drive his decision and determine whether we stay the course with the original "Plan A".
Because, whether you or I or your cousin Bert think it's the right move or not, I do feel that Danny Ainge at this point is still going to offer Kyrie a contract. It's what makes too much sense from an asset management standpoint. Re-sign Kyrie and then offer a package consisting of one of the Jays and stuff for Anthony Davis. Regardless of all the chatter, noise and FUD this last year, that is almost certainly still Danny's, "Plan A".
So, Kyrie's impressions - real or false - of what fans think may be a big factor in deciding this franchise' direction.
What do you think?
