It’s no secret that the Celtics could use another big man. They also could use some shooting and bench scoring. If they can get all three in one guy without breaking the bank, that would be great.
One guy that might check all those boxes is Washington Wizards big Davis Bertans. He’s 6’10 and is one of the deadliest catch-and-shoot players in the game.
The Wizards have been reluctant to deal him, but he’s a free agent at the end of the season and Washington might elect to get some longer term assets for him.
Per Chase Hughes:
In addition to the Sixers, Hawks and Lakers, the Celtics and Nuggets have emerged as suitors for Bertans’ services, NBC Sports Washington has learned. Bertans, 27, has enjoyed a breakout season, averaging 15.4 points and 4.9 rebounds while shooting 43.4 percent from three on 8.6 attempts per game.
Bertans makes $7M so matching salaries would not require using Marcus Smart or any of the higher salary guys on the roster. The question becomes what kinds of assets would the Celtics be willing to part with and how much of a bidding war would they go into with the other teams interested in Davis.
Currently Bertans is out with a quad injury but expects to be back on the court soon.
