The Celtics had three first round draft selections, so the thought was always that Danny Ainge would be shopping some, if not all of these picks. After a mostly quiet night, the Celtics finally trade this last selection of the first round to Memphis.
With Desmond Bane and Tyrell Terry still on the board, it raises questions as to which direction Ainge was heading in this draft. Earlier, the Celtics took wing Aaron Nesmith and guard Payton Pritchard with the first two picks. These two are scorers that will give life to a bench that desperately needs it.
The bottom line was that the Celtics were going to struggle having three first-rounders on the roster, so a trade of some sort was a high probability. We will see what the future draft pick is and will have a better judgement of what grade the Celtics will get for this trade and this draft as a whole.
