Must C’s: hoop pundits hype Tatum and the Celtics

Since the All-Star break, Jayson Tatum has been the NBA’s best player.

NBA: Draft Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Here are Jayson Tatum’s raw numbers since on the Boston’s 3-1 road trip: 34.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game, hitting 56.6% and 55.9% from behind the arc. He dropped 41 points in a heartbreaker to the Lakers and followed that performance up with back-to-back 30+ efforts in two of the toughest gyms in the west. No wonder everybody is talking about Tatum.

With Tatum’s sudden emergence as arguably the league’s best player at 21 or younger, expectations have risen with his star status. With the pending returns of fellow All-Star Kemba Walker and another key rotation player in the second unit in Robert Williams, many consider the Celtics as legitimate contenders to take down the Bucks in the Eastern Conference.
