Trade deadline day is here! Will the Celtics make a move today? That’s the question on everyone’s mind. Based on Danny Ainge’s comments and the general buzz around the league, it sounds like the team is interested in upgrading the bench (probably by using some combination of younger players and picks) with either shooting or size.
A larger deal seems unlikely as the Celtics are reluctant to part ways with any of their top players (Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kemba Walker, Gordon Hayward, Marcus Smart). That leaves them with very few options to match higher salary targets in trades.
The Celtics don’t like to admit to feeling pressure from their competition but some East rivals have already improved themselves in the past day. The Miami Heat have agreed to a deal to bring in Andre Iguodala and have their eyes on adding Danilo Gallinari as well. The Sixers added two shooters from Golden State in Glen Robinson III and Alec Burks. The Celtics had been rumored to be interested in both those guys so it will be interesting to see how they pivot today.
We’ll keep you updated on all the latest rumors and breaking news throughout the day, but use this thread as a good starting point for your discussions. Enjoy the day!
