Wednesday’s Celtics-Magic game postponed

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Wednesday’s game between the Celtics and visiting Magic has been postponed. This marks three consecutive games that have been pushed back, including Sunday’s rematch with the Heat (Miami did not have the required eight players), today’s game in Chicago, and the front end of a two-game set against visiting Orlando.

On Thursday, it was announced that Robert Williams tested positive for COVID-19 and because of contact tracing, Grant Williams and Tristan Thompson were put in quarantine after sharing a car ride with the Celtics center. On Friday, the Celtics beat the Wizards at TD Garden after returning from a four-game road trip. On Saturday, Jayson Tatum tested positive and proximity protocols put teammates Jaylen Brown, Javonte Green (who had just missed ten days), and Semi Ojeleye in quarantine as well. Then, Sunday’s game was postponed because the Heat could not field an entire roster. Two days later, Boston’s one-game road trip to Chicago was also postponed because the Celtics presumably had at least one player enter the protocol.

The second of Boston’s mini-series with Orlando is scheduled for Friday at 4:30 pm, but it’s possible that that game could be postponed as well. Here’s a nifty timeline of the team’s from our friends at NBC Boston:

It’s possible that Grant Williams and Tristan Thompson could return on Friday and the Celtics could field at least eight players, but presumably at least one and possibly more teammates entered health and safety protocols yesterday prior to their scheduled game in Chicago tonight.

For what it’s worth, The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach reported that the team and Kemba Walker are eyeing Friday for his return, but with the Auerbach Center closed and practices suspended, it’s possible that that timeline has been pushed back like the rest of the Celtics’ schedule.
