I wanted more

I watched the Celtics/Magic last night and I wanted a stronger showing by the Celtics. Instead I was left with a "well, maybe" feeling about this team. Here is what I liked and didn't liked.

Offense: I liked that there was less ISO ball. I didn't like the lack of screening off the ball and lack of backdoor cuts. To me, I know an offense is being effective when you get some open backdoor cuts or easy weak side buckets. The Celtics had a lot of perimeter passing but didn't attack the paint with the pass or skip pass. Also hated the sloppy passing.

Rob Williams: For those of you who want him to play more in control, you got your wish. But I kinda like the high energy Timelord. I don't think he had any alley-oops and I didn't see him roll to the rim. He was out-played by Mo Bama.

Defense: Some good pressure and rebounding, but I still think quick players too often blow by Boston's perimeter defenders causing the Celtics to go in scramble mode.

Bench: Not enough production. I was hoping to see a bench that extends leads. It's got both veterans and youth.

Good: Jaylen Brown was very good and Jason Tatum is going to b e a monster. They need more from the supporting cast.

Oh well, one preseason game. A teacher would call this game a "formative assessment" and adjust the instructions. Let's see what the coach learned from this game and how he uses that knowledge.
