Must C’s: the importance of Marcus Smart

Even hurt and on the bench, Marcus Smart makes a difference.

One of the advantages of having zero to limited crowds in NBA stadiums has been how much you can hear the players and coaches on the floor. During the Hawks’ hail storm of three-pointers Wednesday night, you could hear a very vocal Marcus Smart on the bench, coaching up the defense. Put on a pair of earphones, crank up the volume, and enjoy the sweet sounds of Marcus Smart yelling:

“SLIDE OVER, JEFF!!!”

“STAY THERE, TT!!!”

“GET UP!!! GET UP!!!”

That’s music to my ears. You can’t help but think that this rough stretch for Boston might be a little different if #36 was on the floor.

Smart has now missed fourteen games with his strained calf and the Celtics have gone 5-9. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Smart will continue to rehab through the All-Star break and is eyeing a return for the second half of the season that starts March 11th for the Celtics in Brooklyn.
