The Celtics beat the Wizards 111-110 in one of the most thrilling finishes of the season on Sunday. The Garden Report discussed below, courtesy of CLNS Media.
Jayson Tatum Drains GAME WINNER vs Wizards
The Celtics pulled off an impossible seven point turnaround in the final 2 minutes after the Celtics trailed by six points due to Bradley Beal’s scoring barrage reaching 46 late in the fourth quarter. Kemba Walker fed Semi Ojeleye for a three, then Jayson Tatum hit two straight buckets in the lane to pull within one. The Celtics then laid a trap on Bradley Beal and forced a turnover, setting up an in bounds from Tatum through Payton Pritchard back to Tatum who hit a scoop layup through Beal for the win. Brad Stevens and the Celtics then drew up a trap on Beal with 4 seconds left to cut off his three point attempt. The 111-110 win was the most impressive of the season and marked Boston’s first two game win streak since January. Bobby Manning reported for the Garden Report live from TD Garden.
Will Jayson Tatum and Bradley Beal Reunite with Celtics?
Jayson Tatum and Bradley Beal combined for 57 points and battled into the final seconds of Celtics vs Wizards until Tatum scored the final 10 Celtics points to overcome a late 6 point deficit Bradley Beal had poured on him along with 46 of his own points. Tatum said after he hopes he and childhood friend Beal can play on the same team for the first time in the All Star Game. Could it happen beyond that? The Celtics would have long odds to trade for Beal if he ever became available, but Danny Ainge can do things now to put Boston in a better position if he decides he wants to join Tatum on the Celtics.
Did Jayson Tatum Prove He’s BACK vs Wizards?
Jayson Tatum dropped 31 PTS on 12/22 shooting to go with 8 REB, 3 AST, and 3 STL in the 111-110 nail-biting win against the streaking Wizards. Tatum came in clutch in crunch time for Boston, hitting crucial buckets down the stretch for the Celtics, including the game winner, plus a VICIOUS dunk on Robin Lopez. The Garden Report crew discusses Tatum’s gutsy performance vs Bradley Beal in a much-needed win, and the balance between beauty and frustration in his game.
Why DIdn’t Aaron Nesmith Play vs Wizards?
Aaron Nesmith played only 7 minutes vs the Pacers on Friday and did not play vs the Wizards on Sunday after 7 straight games and roughly 2 weeks of coming off Brad Stevens’ bench first to play 10-20 minutes. Is Nesmith out of the rotation in favor of Javonte Green and Semi Ojeleye at this point? The benching was especially glaring on a night Jaylen Brown did not play. The Garden Report on CLNS Media debated the sitting of Nesmith and whether it’s a good developmental move.
What Would it Take to Get Bradley Beal on the Celtics?
Bradley Beal went off against Boston, dropping 46 PTS on 16/29 shooting against the Celtics, and barely managed to hold the star at bay. With the connection between Beal and Jayson Tatum going back to their childhood and Boston capable of making a big splash, is Beal the big trade target Danny Ainge is trying to catch? The Garden Report weighs in on trade ideas and what that scenario could cost Boston.
