Sometimes, the simplest answer is the right one. Danny Ainge will spend the next day before the NBA trade deadline scouring the market for players that will help the Celtics in the immediate and in the future. For the next 24 hours, we’ll hear rumors swirling around Harrison Barnes, Aaron Gordon, John Collins, and yes, Marcus Smart, but maybe, the answer to Boston’s problems was right under their nose:

The former Celtic certainly checks a bunch of boxes. Bruiser on the block? Check. Killer mid-range? Check. Stretch the floor from behind the arc? Check. Clamp down defense? Check. Most importantly, swagger? CHECK.
The salary cap math might get tricky. Scal spent the bulk of his career in green, but it’s unclear who has his Bird Rights at this point with his finals years spent in Chicago. However, Danny Ainge could explore a deal with the White Mamba as a buyout candidate if the local Y has scooped him up for the over-40 league yet.
