Welcome to the NBA trade deadline! The day is finally here. Will the Boston Celtics make a move to improve their team? Or will another deadline day pass with no deals and talk about how the team was “close on a number of deals.”
On one hand, the team clearly needs something. Be it a minor tweak, a sideways move, or a major overhaul. If for no other reason than to get this team out of the rut they seem to be in.
Personal opinion: Celtics have to do something.

Move some guys who aren’t a part of the future. Sort of a soft reset.
Or go get help for right now. Ideally, players under contract beyond this year.
Standing pat shouldn’t be an option for Boston. Yet, I fear it may be.
On the other hand, trades made from a position of desperation seldom have a positive outcome. And one has to wonder if this year’s team has enough left to salvage anyway.
This team is just maddeningly inconsistent. Not just game to game but quarter to quarter, minute by minute. They can look fantastic one play and pathetic the next. A lot of that is youth, but some of it is just a mix of players that just doesn’t add up. Will a trade or two help fit those pieces together better?
We’ll stay tuned on Aaron Gordon news. We’ll keep an eye out for Harrison Barnes rumors. Same for Larry Nance Jr., George Hill, and the rest of the usual suspects.
Of course everything has a cost. So we’ll also have to consider who is going out the door. If it is Marcus Smart or Robert Williams III, then the return had better be good coming back.
I’ve talked myself into being certain a deal will happen in years past and it hasn’t played out that way. I’m thinking that the Celtics are extra motivated to make a deal this year, but that doesn’t mean it will happen.
The trade deadline is today at 3:00 PM EST. Buckle up for rumors.
